The Fourth Law and Odd Systems Host "Autonomy and Sovereignty" Event in Kyiv to Redefine the Future of Defense Tech
On February 26, the companies The Fourth Law and Odd Systems held "Autonomy and Sovereignty," a closed-door event in Kyiv for key industry stakeholders. The gathering brought together over 200 participants, including representatives from the Security and Defense Forces, the government, Ukrainian and international industry leaders, defense innovators, and investors.

The discussion centered on the practical transition from rapid "frontline" fixes to the industrial scaling of autonomous systems that provide a decisive edge in modern warfare. During the event, military personnel (from the Marine Corps, the National Guard’s "Typhoon" unit, and heads of unmanned systems units) and manufacturers (such as Vyriy and Wild Hornets) discussed what is currently working on the battlefield and what needs to change for Ukraine to move from experimentation to technological dominance.
“In 5 months, we used 608 autonomous Lupynis drones—436 of them hit their targets, which is 71%. Of those, 284 were against moving targets. This is a very high result... Thanks to this, we increased the kill zone from 3 to 10 kilometers... If the state purchased and provided 50% of drones equipped with automated terminal guidance, it would help us tremendously,” noted Major Maksym Gromov, Chief of Unmanned Systems and Head of the Unmanned Systems Department of Military Unit A1376, during his speech.
The Future of Warfare: Key Takeaways
Opening the event, Yaroslav Azhnyuk, co-founder of The Fourth Law and Odd Systems, set a high bar for the presentation. While announcing eight new technological capabilities from both companies, he highlighted three fundamental pillars of modern warfare:
Drones and Robots as Primary Platforms: The era of human-centric warfare is giving way to autonomous and remotely operated systems. These are no longer just "add-ons" to traditional units but the foundation upon which modern combat operations are built.
Technological Manufacturing as the "New Oil": A state's strategic power is no longer defined solely by natural resources. The ability to mass-produce high-tech hardware and software at an industrial scale is the highest form of national wealth and geopolitical influence.
AI for the Battlefield – The 21st Century "Manhattan Project": Artificial Intelligence is causing a paradigm shift comparable to the invention of the atomic bomb. This is the defining arms race of our time, where the winner will set the rules for global security.
Strategic Dialogue: Scaling Innovation
The event began with a panel discussion titled "Insights from Market Leaders." The dialogue focused on the "autonomous leap" – how the frantic pace of Ukrainian innovation can be standardized into serial industrial production of defense systems.

Moderated by Yaroslav Azhnyuk, the panel featured:
Oleksandr Kamyshin, Advisor to the President of Ukraine on Strategic Issues;
Oleksandr Bornyakov, Acting Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine;
Rick Smith, Founder and CEO of Axon Enterprise, Inc.
Rick Smith, Founder and CEO of Axon, a US publicly traded global leader in public safety technology, explained the pragmatic reasons behind his investments in Ukraine. He said Ukraine is innovating at a pace few institutions or governments are structurally built to match. These investments reflect a recognition that Ukraine has become a real-time proving ground for the next generation of defense technologies.
Ukrainian government representatives emphasized that Ukraine's main advantage is real-time innovation born from the most intensive technological war in the world. They spoke of a "reality gap," explaining that global capital and international partners often fail to realize the true speed of change on the front lines.
Deep Dive: Roadmap to 2027
The presentation portion of the evening by the leadership of The Fourth Law and Odd Systems provided a technical and strategic analysis of two national defense sectors:
1 Autonomy
Yaroslav Azhnyuk outlined the current state of autonomous systems in the air, on land, and at sea. Key points included:
Autonomous systems are capable of fundamentally changing the course of the war throughout 2026.
Demonstrations of numerous successful combat missions and operator experiences using these systems.
The announcement of a series of new products with official releases coming soon.

2 Sensor Market and Component Sovereignty
Roman Medvedev, CEO of Odd Systems, and Andriy Taganskyi, Director of the Camera Unit, raised the critical need for supply chain security, particularly regarding thermal imaging and optical cameras. Key announcements included:
Case Study on "Localization Depth":
1 out of every 5 thermal imaging cameras produced globally goes to the Ukrainian front.
Dependency Risks: Dependence on Chinese manufacturers remains high.
Total annual production of thermal cameras in the EU would only cover 3–4 months of Ukraine's needs, at a cost 4–5 times higher.
Security Component: Establishing a full-cycle domestic camera production line is a matter of Ukrainian national security.
New Product Launches: A preview of a new line of cameras, with an official release expected soon.
Odd Camera Factory One: The official announcement of Ukraine's first factory for the serial production of sensors.

The "Autonomy and Sovereignty" event concluded with a clear message: the future of global defense is currently being written in the laboratories and trenches of Ukraine. By moving from one-off solutions to industrial mass production of autonomous systems, Fourth Law and Odd Systems are not just defending the country—they are setting a new technological gold standard for NATO and its allies.
"What we are creating here is the roadmap for deterrence in the 21st century," noted Yaroslav Azhnyuk in his closing remarks. "Sovereignty in the modern era is measured by the autonomy of your systems and the resilience of your supply chains. Today, we have proven that Ukraine is no longer just a consumer of defense technology—it is its primary architect."
